Pride and Prejudice (Mainly Prejudice): A Reflection

I really am not suited to write blogs, I almost forgot my blog's existence, haha! While I still remember that this exists, I want to share a couple of realizations after enrolling in law school.

Enrollment

A few days ago, I enrolled in the law school of my choice. I arrived ten minutes earlier than the starting time, but there were already many incoming freshmen there. Being the INFJ that I am, I did not bother to socialize with the other people present in the waiting room (the ones I know have not arrived yet); it was however inevitable to hear other people's dialogues since they had loud voices.

I heard somebody complain about something being "too much". That something was not actually "too much", considering that this is law school we're talking about. The funny things is that it is not "too much" for a high school student, nor to an elementary pupil. She was just whiny.  Afterwards, somebody raised a question regarding the existence of "terror profs". I was taken aback. The normal question should be: "Are there lenient profs?" We are entering law school. LAW SCHOOL. Another person asked whether or not professors curve grades. If we were in a cartoon or anime, I would have been depicted as a person falling from her seat.

Pride and Prejudice (Mainly Prejudice)

Before anything else, I want to say that Pride and Prejudice is one of the best novels ever written and that Jane Austen is the greatest!

Now on Pride. (That was quick, haha!) I realized that I had been proud. I was proud because I was not whiny (But it turns out I am whiny on the inside LOL). I was proud because I did not want to be spoon-fed. Most of all, I realized that I was a judgmental biatch.

You see when it comes to pet peeves I have lots, especially regarding language. I don't like hearing two languages being mixed and butchered at the same time. All my language pet peeves were present at that time. That mainly triggered my negative attitude towards everything. I have to overcome my pet peeves fast!

Also, there is no such thing as spoon-feeding in the university I will be graduating from. There is no spoon to begin with, we have to look for it by ourselves... or make one for ourselves. I like this "laissez faire" treatment. That is why I am not okay with people wanting to be spoon-fed.

In my university, we have been taught not "what to think" but rather "how to think critically". Most professors I had go by Socrates' line: "I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think." I like that about them, and I also like how passionate they are. The passion for learning can go a long way. I tried to look for this passion in the people I saw and heard, but I found none. That was wrong of me. I did not talk to them long enough to begin with. I was just being a judgmental bastard, especially when I heard them ask which blocks are easy and which are not. Human beings are rational creatures to begin with. They will always do cost-benefit analysis. At the very least they are satisficers. I was just being Elizabeth Bennet when she tried to make out Mr. Darcy's character! I was a prejudiced biatch. And I am sorry to have thought of such ill opinions of others.

Now I just realized the this post is long enough and that I am sleepy, haha. Good night. ( I said that, but I am just mainly lazy to write a conclusion so I will just sleep haha)

P.S. I am excited to enter law school. <3 Sweet dreams, everyone.

Ateneo Law Entrance Exam Results

The Ateneo Law School entrance exam results were released last April 1st. Seeing my name on that list gave me a fleeting sensation that put me in cloud nine! If you've seen Legally Blonde: The Musical (highly recommended!), imagine the scene where Elle saw her name on Callahan's list of accepted interns! I was that happy xD

Oh, speaking of Legally Blonde, I really like the song Blood in the Water. :3

San Beda Exam Results

When I saw the UP LAE results, my confidence vanished into thin air. All I knew was that I wasn't good enough and I didn't like myself for that. Entering THE Malcolm Hall has always been my goal; I look at it everyday when I pass by (Malcolm Hall is adjacent to my college). That's why when it was released on the night of my birthday, it was inevitable for me to cry. I looked pathetic, haha.

A few days ago, I found out that I passed the San Beda entrance exam, and it made me inextricably happy! I was pleased with my exam results. Perhaps I was not good enough when I took the UP LAE, but I was good enough to pass a top law school so I'm satisfied. :D The person in the Law Guidance Office who gave me my exam results said that the Critical Thinking score is vital in law, so this inevitably made my day!

Undergrad: Inadequacy

Having interviewed a representative of a regulatory agency (for our Admin Law research), I felt a sense of accomplishment; I was happy for having been productive. But then that positive sentiment vanished at the sight of a numerical figure! My paper in one course was just returned a few minutes ago, I expected a higher grade! I did a pretty comprehensive paper, I dare say so. But Prof pointed out something essential that my paper lacks, and he was right. I was suddenly disheartened. Why did I forget such a thing?! My grade was mediocre, if not low, and I feel so inadequate because of it. Maybe I'm putting too much importance on my grades. Perhaps my pride cannot accept such mediocrity. The thing is I put much effort in writing that paper.

On the bright side, I will not forget that essential thing because of this. I will be better in writing. I should!

On another brighter side, I have already written down my emotions, and I now feel better than I did a few minutes ago. I am starting to motivate myself to do better. I have goals I must accomplish!

Guilty pleasure

Perfect combination

Undergrad: Writer's Block

This is my last semester as an undergrad. Alas! I did not make my last semester hassle free. I have two law  subjects (Law and Economics & Administrative Law) and other electives that require so much paperwork while my other graduating friends are living a stress-free semester!

Today, I plan to finish at least half of my Law and Economics paper. I have one problem though, I might have reached a dead end. That or I just focused on the wrong research questions to begin with. I just realized that my framework was more on Criminology and less on Economics (it's an Economics elective). I suddenly didn't know what I wanted to say.

I'm writing about the juvenile justice system, focusing on the age of criminal liability and its deterrence effect... something like that... *sigh* The more literature I read, the more messed up my thoughts become.

I should be preparing for my interview tomorrow ~.~ It's for my group's Administrative Law case study. I haven't even read the IRR of the regulatory agency we will write about. But I couldn't concentrate unless I resolve my first dilemma.

*sigh* And now I just realized that writing this blog post is a form of procrastination!

Oh, btw! I watched a courtroom drama so as to be inspired. It's a good one and I highly recommend it!! Watch "A Few Good Men" (the attention span, HAHAHA)

Baby Steps: MBA-JD

I found myself looking at the list of requirements for FEU-La Salle's MBA-JD program. I already took the Ateneo Law and San Beda entrance exam. I used to only consider UP, Ateneo, and Beda. The program is really interesting. We're talking about an MBA and a JD in only five years!

I don't know anyone taking the program so I don't know much about it. Since there is still time, I will take it after the Beda and Ateneo results come out.

Baby Steps: Law School Application

I was doing a paper when I decided to visit the Nation of Procrasti. I suddenly thought of making a blog, so here it is! It will contain my law school endeavors.I hope I get to maintain this one. I tried blogging before but I eventually became lazy. I also tried keeping a journal, but to no avail I forgot its existence!

To date, I have applied to the top three law schools in the country. Sadly, I didn't pass the UP LAE so I won't be continuing my studies in the university after graduation. Some of my friends passed so I was quite envious for a while, but I have accepted the fact that I WAS not good enough to enter THE Malcolm Hall.

The MBA-JD program of FEU-La Salle seems interesting. It's an MBA and a JD in just five years for Christ's sake! My grandfather wants me to take this one, he said it's perfect for me. I am a BS Economics senior, and most people think that I want to pursue corporate law. But criminal law sparks my interest the most. I'm still considering corporate though. I haven't applied yet, but I might give it a try.

I actually don't care if people will read this. This is for personal use, but I will make this public since I will be posting case digests and law-related stuff; it might help other people :D Knowledge has an increasing returns to scale so I don't mind.

Bye!
